Mats in red and deal in the works to make space

TSN is reporting that Ottawa is still in the mix for Mats. True. However, to make this feasable, at least 4 million on cap space would need to be cleared to afford the rumored salary, as well as leaving a buffer for callups and something down the road.

The names I hear being activly shopped are of course Gerber, but not as obvious is Kelly...
Chris has played his role well, but at the 2.125/amun could find his way out of Ottawa. Another player would is rumored to be shopped (for the right return) is Brian Lee along with a package, but ottawa would want a proven puck moving defenseman.... Florida is rumored to be interested.

And I know you guys are gonna get pissy but the Chicago rumors will not die down.... but with Sundin now officially in the mix, its a game of pick your poison.... keep gerber and get sundin, or loose gerber, get habby but loose sundin....

What would you do?

Chi-town bound?

Things are heating up after yesterday afternoon.
Information is coming in that BM was working the phones, attempting to shop Gerber again. Even after one game, Murray felt it was evident that Martin would not cut it this year.

"Sub Par is not even close to being good enough. We saw enough of that **** last year and I don't think we'll see much of it this year."
"Brian and Eugine are committed to winning. They will make the moves the need to, when they can to make the team better. If that involves Martin then it will, but if anything is to be done, it will be sooner then later" - Team Source in Sweden.

I have heard that last night and this morning, Murray was in discussions again with Chicago in regards to Khabibulin and an "offensive d-man". We'll see what the day brings

Its been a while... Reasoning and Bulin

Hey everyone.
I know its been a while since i've last been able to post. No, its not because of school or work or anything like that. I've been fighting a cease and decist order that came as a result of news past along in this blog. The reasoning I was issued this order was due to possible "character defimation" of the accusing party who shall remain nameless due to legal reasons.

On to the fun stuff.
Its been one hell of a fun off season, and like most I was happy to see the Meszaros situation resolved and I am elated with the return as a fan.

However, on to the news. Ottawa could make a pitch for Bulin IF he is to come back on re-entry waivers, thus forcing Chicago to take on half of that 6.5million dollar salary.

Winchester looks to be a lock for the top six due to his work ethic, and management loves the kid, and although he is starting the season on the 2nd line, he will be moved up to the first to play with Spezza and Heater, moving Alfie down to spread out the offence.

Its good to be back...

Back from the Muskokas... Vermette?

I know I left with no words of goodbye, or warning... but hey... thats what being in your 20s is about right? Those random, spirr of the moment trips and events that last a life time...

To the stuff you guys want to know...

As I had posted over a week ago, Vancouver was hot after Vermette. Kessler is part of the package, but I hear Bieksa could also feature.... Eather would be a good addition to a team that seems to be going towards a Young, gritty, defensive minded team with a hell of an offensive flair...

Lunch... mmmmmmm

---- Lunchtime Update!I just checked the mail and cellphone, and it looks like Murray is also trying to weigh a possible deal with Florida, against the deal he was working on with Chicago. Jay Bouwmeester was targeted a few weeks ago, and rumors keep on creeping up... this one though, has legs.It seems that Murray is doing his due dilligence to find the best fit and the best deal for ottawa, and although he's driving us writers, and fans alike, insane with this posturing, he has the best interest of the team at heart. If he can swing a favourable deal for Bouwmeester, I'd expect him to do so at the expense of a deal for Barker.

Oh What a night

On the eve of what we in the industry are touting the most complicated deal in Senators history, my power goes out. It did not return untill aprox 3am... a tad to late to do this update.

I've been working on this one for a few days now, and although some information was admittedly rushed by some sources, a deal is still in the works between Ottawa and Chicago.
Murray and Tallon have both denied highway robbery rumor, not that a deal is in the works that fits both teams needs. I dismissed the outlandish Kopitar deal at the very begining, because I doubt LA would be ever trade a budding star. However, that does not mean tha LA is still not somewhat involved in trade talks. This is as they are ready to pick up the scraps left at the table to give some sort of cap relief to those teams involved that need it.

Murray knows he is dealing with a very tough situation right now. Meszaros is threatening to leave in a game of salary chicken, to see who jumps out of the way first and just relents. Vermette is playing hardball, because he feels like he could be more productive elsewhere and thus wants to leave to do so.

One of those players will be delt in the comming days. I have my money on Vermette to Vancouver, as stated earlier as talks are still ongoing surrounding Kessler.

Its comming!!!!!

A Deal is getting VERY close...

Stay tuned for an official announcement...

Update:
Big names and big Salary comming Ottawa's way.... Eugene had to give his okay on this one.
-----------------------------

Update 2:30pm:
Ladies and Gentlemen, news is comming slowly but it seems there is a bit of a log jam over at the NHL in NYC. The trade LOOKS done, not 100% confirmed. Waiting on concrete confirmation.... when I know, you'll know... but is a commin!!!

Another Update @3:55pm:
The Los Angles kings are still working out the deal with the Hawks accoring to sources. From the same sources, "Players involved in the Ottawa Chicago deal would be heading to LA. As well, contract extensions could be what is holding up the finality of the deals as well"
But Everyone I've talked to thus far has still stated to hold tight... the deal is still being finalized but is looking to wrap up at any time.

From Hollywood hills.....

One thing really makes me wonder.
If I was to write something as outlandish as Kopitar to Chicago.... would I get a steady job with the Sun too? Because if thats the case, I'll jump right on that bandwaggon of horrible deals an propsals in a second.

Here is the real news per what has been told to me this morning.
Is Los Angles involved again with a three way deal? Yes.
But will it include Kopitar? No.... the most likely name to be included on LA's side are either Patrick O'Sullivan or Alex Frolov.

IF LA is going to be a part of any deal, it will be to obsorb the cap hit of Khabibulin. This is where the Three Way gets a goin'. Ottawa then could take the cap hit of Khabibulin off of LA's hands in exchange for "Gerber and another weak contract"

As for Ottawa and Chicago, Ottawa is still rumored to be deep in discussions for Barker (+) for Neil (+).

However, Vancouver is rumored as well to have put forward a strong offer for Vermette... in the shape of a talented aggitator in Kessler.
---------
Update: This deal is really picking up traction. This move would be fantastic for ottawa. They pick up a cheaper player in Kessler who has a similar skillset to vermette (sans super soft hands) and a whole lot of sandpaper for infront of the net on the powerplay, all for a cap savings of around 1.25-1.75 a year. IF this deal goes through, its a precursor to a major deal or signing
-
Meszaros and Murray are at an impasse... a canyon worth about half a million a year, in a long term deal. Can they overcome this gap? Yes they will.. Meszaros will be in a senators uniform this comming camp UNLESS a offer floors Murray to the point he gets a far superiour player in return.

Wipeout = Best show ever

I dont think I've laughed so hard at people falling off of giant red balls or getting punched in the face by a wall ever in my life. The writers are genius!
As for the day, lets put it like this... I'm talking about wipeout for christ sake.

I'm hearing as of now the deal is as follows, Neil + for Barker. Vermette could go elsewhere, as someone else (who wanted to offer a sheet) has stepped into the mix. Hint, west coast, Rockies, nude beaches ;). But no word on who's comming back.
I would LOVE for Kessler or Bernier, and either are possible given Ellis at the helm, however.... are either likely? I dont know. Its pure speculation as to who would come back if a deal is made. However, Van City has officially tabled an offer to Ottawa.

--- Update :1:40am
Schedule comming out tomorrow....
Vancouver very much in the running for Vermette I've been told... who is the hot comodity as of right now. A bunch of teams have called about his availablity, but the asking price is high. Murray knows hes dealing from a weak point with Vermette due to the trade request, BUT, he is not going to give him away for peanuts. LA is creaping back into the mix, but only so slightly.... and no, just becasuse a Murray is going to LA does not mean that a deal is going to get done.

Right now, Chicago, Vancouver, LA and Detroit have all made serious inquries for Vermette.
Its going to be a great week Sens Fans...

Keep on checking back for updates... its late, I'm off to bed.

Oh, the mystery the night brings...

I've been reporting this for a few days now, and they wont seem to go away. The Barker, (and now Skille) to Ottawa has increased in its likelyhood. In fact, I'm told that Barker has on Murrays list for a while now, and had inquired a few times about the budding defenceman. Chicago has been somewhat unimpressed with his performance thus far, but we can all agree that the young blueliner had picked up his game in latter part of last year. As well, with Keith stepping it up, Barker has become expendable. The logical return for that package would be Vermette, but as you will read later on, the most likely is Neil.

As for the possiblity of a Threeway.... ha... had too..
There is no direct connection to ottawa and la la land... although interest has been noted and an offer tabled... LA is not prepared to deal assets Murray wanted in return. If they are to land Vermette, it will be becase he was flipped to another team for LESS then was Murray wanted to begin with.

Ottawa on the other hand has a huge issue with Meszaros. He is commanding 4 million a year as previously stated, but can the sens fit him long term at that figure? Will he sign at 3.5 longterm? I've been told that Murray has held steady on that number and that its a test of wills to see who breaks. The last thing that Murray wants to do is deal the young blueliner. He has shown in his rookie year that he has the skillset to be an elite defenceman, and feels that his progression was only hindered by the lack of confidence stemming from two average (at best) seasons.

Vermette is also a complex situation and despite comments made by the ottawa sun writer, my sources are still steadfast on the fact that Vermette wants to be delt. As mentioned before, Chicago wants Vermette. It could be possible that the package discussed above is for Vermette, but at the contract he wants, does not solve Chicago's cap issues. This makes package for Neil rumor make more sence for Chicago.

------ So I bid you all adieu for the night. I work at my money makeing job tomorrow, but I shall have my HTC Touch right next to me at all times, ready to post whatever it is that I hear for you. This week is shaping up to be a good one.... Who said there was going to be a lull.

Thoughts on Emery Interview

I cant beleive what I just saw and heard.

There is something dramatically different from Ray, something that tells me, he's made massive changes in his life. He gave away those changes. I'm not going to repeat things that have been said, rumors and such, but its all well known that Ray had his share of personal issues and rumor demons. I pray for his sake, and future that they have been slayed. He says that he wants to become a better person, and I beleive that he will. Ray Emery has all the talent in the world, and if he lets these personaly demons creap back into his life, he will never realize his potential.

There are many Ottawa fans who, are ready, or were ready to ship him out of town. Sports writers licking their lips for his next mistake, his next slip up because its makes for a great story. We as writers also need to be held accountable in a way for adding to his downfall. We stroked his ego when the team was winning and made him the villian when he was stuggling with habbits and personal issues.

I applaud Mike Landsberg for his questions. I beleive, subtly, he let Ray apologize and admit what he wanted to. I'm glad someone actually had the balls to ask the drug question. I'm glad Ray is making personal change.

All the best Ray, I hope the russian women treat you well, and that you get back into the NHL soon.

Lee.... Nope

Sources say Lee wont be moved.... Sportsnet mix up is ages old.

Phones, email have been going insane for the past hour, then nothing... silence.
Calm before the storm? I dont know, maybe a supper break lol.
Barker's name is still being mentioned.... Murray wants Barker, period.
Skille is still being mentioned as well, but at what expense? Who from Chicago or LA would replace Vermettes offensive output if delt? Who would replace Neils heart and leadership in the room if delt?

However, i'm sure that if the right package was put together, that Murray would feel that he could improve the team not only now but in the future, he would not hesitate to pull the trigger on a deal involving Lee, i assure you.

I for one, am, however going to take a supper break... and will get back to you if ANYTHING of interest comes our way...

Hopefully for my sake, a deal gets done after my steak.

I got the Skille that ya'll cant match

Alright, so after digging through Williams-Gate, here's whats going on.

Chicago and Ottawa are in heated discussions.
Seabrook is not one of the names mentioned to me, Sorry Lee.
What I am hearing however, is that Skille and Barker would be comming back to ottawa in the package.

This is snowballing VERY quickly and I hear that the kings are VERY involved.
I've been told to not be suprised to see Vermette, Neil and Andrej moved, in a deal that could swing 8-10 players between the 3 teams.

I heard of something big on Friday, this might be it?

oh.... Say it aint so...

First and foremost. Business is Business is Business. And I have never been more confused as to a string of events in my life.
Let me peice this together for you, and see if when writing it out, it starts to click in a little bit.
There are two distinct answers to why this deal fell through. Either, or even both could be 100% correct... but let me state this, a Signed contract was forwarded to the NHL and NHLPA by the ottawa senators. Here is where the fun part starts. So was a contract from the Thrashers. This is where everything gets clouded. The NHL is to process transfers on a per receipt basis. What I hear is that Ottawa called the NHL office on Sunday afternoon to ask for the Agreement to be made null and void, as they had been told by the Williams camp "Not to send the contract, they agreed to another elsewhere... they wanted the deal voided, and Ottawa relented." The Atlanta deal passed through, where the Ottawa deal was nixxed. The second is that Ottawa and Atlanta had sent the contracts to the NHL but Atlants was processed first, thus giving the deal to Atlanta.

Classy eh?

Game Over Willie

Who is really to say what happened, or what is going on at this moment.
All i know is that Don Waddell is stating he has signed the Winger to a one year, 2.2million contract. However, here is when one needs to step back and evaluate what really went on behind the scenes. Is it fair to call Williams greedy? I dont know yet. Selfish? Maybe, but in the end, he selected more money, from a weaker team. Maybe he expected to sign next year for bigger money?
The thing is this, the deal was done, in principle, awaiting the league stamp of approval on friday, this we know. What we dont know is where everything went wrong and how. Personally I dont expect to find out any time soon if it was a mistake on the Senators end, (although I doubt it was.)
Ottawa was Nylander'ed
I'll get into more depth later, about everything going on with Neil and Vermette.

This is insanely bizzare.

TSN's only source is that in london ontario. AChannel.
I have no clue what to beleive right now. This is because there are sources that are still telling me to "wait it out... things will become clear soon enough." But I have a feeling that Williams has pulled a Nylander to Edm. TSN, with writers I respect completely, is only using this as a speculation. I will not beleive it untill its concrete.

As for Chicago and Ottawa trade talks.... they are still strong. However, I've had very little conversation about such a deal due to what I want to call a cluster-f*** of a situatoin with Williams.

For one, I want to see this resolved one way or another, Sens Fans and their writers deserve some finallity.
-------------------
We're in LIMBO!!!!!

A-Channel London not ansering phone calls... No concrete source from TSN, No Associated Press release, and a Post on TSN website by a staffer... We have officially opened Williams-Gate. This could be the most interesting situation I've EVER incountered in hockey, including when I got ejected in a Game (played in Quebec) when I was a young 15 yearold in the Cumberland/Orleans Minor Hockey Association.... Thats a story.... but i'll save that for another slow day. lol

Vermette talks are ongoing. Chicago is hot and heavy for the kid. A package has been put together... Murray's are mulling it over, as well as an offer from LA, and one from Detroit.

Saturday, July 12, 2008

Quick hit then I'm out to enjoy the night...

that is, unless, something passes my way....

Vermette continues to be shopped, Chicago said to have fronted the best package. However Neil was NOT part of the package to Chicago as far as i've been told. But, thats not saying he could not be added if added value was comming the other way.

Williams announcement delayed untill trade is made. This is not only a time issue, but a cap issue I'm told. Ottawa needs something big, and it looks like its gonna happen sooner then later. Williams is only a peice of this puzzle.

I'll post back if/when I hear anything else....

love these slow weekends...

Hell day - Decent signing

"do you still have the iphone?" "No" "Why not?" "Because you decided to come at 5pm... instead of 9am like I told you to... they're sold out".... starts throwing a fit....

Thats the sum of my day.... from 2pm untill 9pm.... person after person... for seven straight hours. Not even enough time to take a break to eat, muchless check the trusty HTC touch for updates, and definatly not enough time to update the blog.... I guess thems the life of a working, student/hockey writer.

Kudos to JC over at SensChirp for breaking the Williams deal. And again, Kevin Lee follows up on his coatails leaching information lol. God I love hockeybuzz.

So here's the lowdown... Williams deal will be announced tomorrow afternoon, either a 12 noon or 3pm. Press Release to be issued tomorrow morning at 8am.
The speculated deal is as follows. 3 years, 5.75 million. (or 1.9 per anum)

This leaves the senators with the following cap space available: 7.774Million.
Assuming a buffer of one million, the Sens have 6.5 in avail space.

Mezzy will be resigned, but earlier texts, (like from 4pm-7pm) tell me that Murray was working the phones quite vividly to get a deal done to trade Vermette PER HIS REQUEST. Hence the Williams signing.... Remember that 10 teams had previously enquired about the forward.... one being Chicago.
I'll dig more into it.

You, Shall, Not, Pass!

Happy Iphone day!!!! My actual money making job lol, is hocking these devices, and I anticipate that this blog shall be my release from saying, "no, sorry, we're sold out" all freaking day. The company i work for pays very handsomly, but sometimes I get those sudden urges to just scream at the top of my lungs, " I dont get paid enough to deal with this shit!"
Effin Cellphones....
Anyways

Sorry for the Random Lord of the Rings quote, but I think its quite acceptable considering the bleakish news I've been passed along today.

There will be just two signings announced today. The third player, was.. (drumroll please) Nagy. The Nagy camp was about to accept Murrays offer of aprox 1.3 million, in the form of a one year contract with bonuses that could push the contract to 3million. However, Nagy has been called on a balk, as he has notified the Senators that he will not be signing with Ottawa this morning. It appears he got a better offer from another Eastern Confrence team, close to what Demitra got with Vancouver.

It appears that talks Mezzy have turned a tad stale. Andrej wont budge on the 4 million per long term. Murray is willing to spend 3.5 as speculated. There can be common ground and I do expect a deal to be done, but as of now, its a test of wills.

As for Vermette, aprox 10 teams have inquired about the flashy forward, but murray has not received anyone of real interest. All his counter offers have been rejected as far as I know. Including a perposed deal with Chicago which features either Barker or Sopel.

Thursday, July 10, 2008

show me, the minors!

Ottawa to Announce 2 Signings tomorrow. JC's on fire, you all know his blog.

Brendan Bell to Sign 1 year 750,000 2way contract (numbers I've been given)

Mitch O'Keefe is gonna sign the entry level contract (obviously).
- note about the kid, he is positionally sound and uses his frame VERY well, and he has great foot speed. his biggest knock is consistancy, but he has the tools to be a starter in the league at some point if he reaches his potential.

Ottawa is VERY close with a western top six UFA forward, and could mean we might have three signings announced tomorrow..... He played for a Cali team last season but was out of the lineup quite a bit.

Thursday's Hungover update

You know one of those mornings, when you wake up and swear to yourself that you will never do another Jager Bomb? Thats me right now....

As for the Senators news, it looks like Mezy is still mulling over what to do. Its obvious that he knows that he has a lot to prove this year. Mark my words, He is not going anywhere. Murray knows that Andrej has a massive upside. You dont have such an incredable rookie year by accident. The kid can outright play. He will be in ottawa red this comming year, in the top 4.

I can tell you that Chicago has called about Vermette. I'm not sure about how serious they are about landing him however.

Looks like Demitra has gone to Vancouver, no terms announced as of yet. I'll try to find out where the Snag was on Murrays end. I have a feeling its contract leignth.
---------- It looks like it was exatly that Murray wanted a short term contract 1-2 years at around 3/per. It appears Demitra has signed for 3 year 12 million. Does this mean that when Gaborik is a UFA next year, that hes going to Vancouver?
--------------------------------------------

4:12 PM: - I'm a little late reporting this, as I litterally just read the Sun online, and I'm sure all of you already know about the courting of Bell. I'm not so sure that this makes the team better at all. I know that he's an ex 67, but that alone doesnt fit our needs unless its a deal specifically for shoring up the D line in Bingo. I actually had not heard of this till now, so who knows.
- I for one am happy that BM didn't overpay for Demitra, I assumed that 3-3.5 would be fair market value, and the ottawa offer is what stalled the initial deal with Vancouver. Obviously Vancouver needed to make a splash, and have, in a way... I wish Demitra the best of luck.
- Ottawa - Chicago talks on going. Rosters players other then Vermette being talked about. Names I just got Text'd to me was "Sopel or Wisniewski. But Ottawa wants Barker, baddly."

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrenzy

For my first post, I'll just get this shit out in the open.

I dont have an E system. Nor will I ever... (E5)

I report what i hear and what I hear only. A rumour is exactly that, a rumour. I'm not nieve to think that I have some super human power that has been given to me by god in which people are drawn to tell me things. I know that I've been and will be used as a marketing and neg. tool, or maybe someone wants to just get something off their chest... thats for them to know, and me to find out.

As for what I'm hearing,

Demitra saying "Vancouver is my #1 choice" was a smart play by his management team. By doing so, they raised the going price from around 3.5- 4 million/anum. Ottawa is in play, and could be the front runners do to the lack of secondary scoring.

Andrej has been tendered an offer by Ottawa, and another team, both similar, just differing by years. Ottawa will match any offer under 5 million a year. Anything more, Murray will love the pics to use as future tools. hint hint to the team offering the sheet.... the first rounder would be one WELL worth keeping if everything falls into place.

Vermette is on the block, an impending RFA (rfa next summer) forward could be comming the other way from a Western Team.

------------------------------------
Response to Eklund: "Boyle's comment on the Thrashers..Last year many comparisons between Boyle and Brian Campbell were made. While I don't dispute that Boyle was wrongly pushed into a corner by Tampa who threatened to waive him if he didn't waive his NTC (does anyone believe that bluff for a second, btw, I mean look what they got for Boyle) I want to draw this comparison in the two players.Brian Campbell: Personally calls Atlanta to thank them for the offer after accepting his offer to Chicago.Dan Boyle: Compares being waived and picked up by Atlanta to pretty much a nightmare..."

------- Stop trying to paint Boyle in a bad light. Do you blame him for not wanting to go there? Atlanta needs to make some serious moves in which to get better and get better quickly. Kovy is no Ovechkin. You can build a team around him, but dont expect him to be the saving grace. I dont mind Boyles comments, if anything they point out what players think of Atlanta.... and what Atlanta needs to do to get on the right track. Stop playin Politics Ek.
